MALAYSIA DECIDES ON THE MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION FOR MATHEMATICS AND SCIENCE

The Malaysian Government decides today that it will revert to teaching Mathematics and English in Bahasa Malaysia in the main stream schools and in Mandarin and Tamil in Chinese and Tamil schools. This switch will be done gradually to avoid any disruption in the schools. The growing gap beween the rural and urban students is given as the reason for the reversal in policy. This decision is contrary to Tun Mahathirs idea of reintroducing the teaching of both these subjects in English. What are your comments on this decision?
